Helping Neighbors

Maintain Housing Stability

At the Christian Service Center, we understand that unexpected financial challenges can make it difficult for individuals and families to keep up with rent and maintain stable housing.

Through our Rental Assistance Program, the Christian Service Center provides temporary rental assistance to eligible Taylor County residents experiencing financial hardship.

The program combines rental assistance with practical financial education through Your Financial Freedom Course (YFFC). Our goal is to help neighbors address an immediate financial need while strengthening skills that can support greater financial stability moving forward.

Rental Assistance – Approved applicants may receive $200 up to $1,500 in rental assistance.

Because program funding is limited, submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Applications are reviewed by the Rental Assistance Review Committee based on program requirements, the applicant’s circumstances, and available funding.

To apply for Rental Assistance:

  • You must currently reside in Taylor County, Texas.
  • You must have a current rental need.
  • You must submit a completed application during the monthly application period.
  • You must provide the required documentation.
  • If you have previously been approved for rental assistance through this program, at least five years must have passed before you may apply again.
  •

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed Rental Assistance Application
  • A completed Rent Verification Form completed by the landlord
  • A copy of your current lease and/or a current utility bill
  • Any additional documentation requested as part of the application packet

Applicants are encouraged to review the application carefully and make sure all required information and documentation are included before submitting it.

Rental Assistance applications are accepted once each month.

Applications open: Call the front office to verify application period.

Applications and required documentation must be submitted during this application period to be considered for that month’s review.

Step 1 — Obtain an Application

Visit the Christian Service Center during the monthly application period to obtain a Rental Assistance Application.

Step 2 — Complete the Application

Complete all required sections of the application and gather the required documentation, including your Rent Verification Form and a copy of your current lease and/or current utility bill.

Step 3 — Submit Your Application

Return your completed application and required documentation to the Christian Service Center before the application period closes on Friday.

Step 4 — Application Review

Applications are reviewed by the Rental Assistance Review Committee.

The committee considers program requirements, each applicant’s circumstances, and available funding. Because funding is limited, meeting the basic eligibility requirements or submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

Step 5 — Notification

Applicants selected for rental assistance will be contacted by the Christian Service Center with information about the next steps and required financial education classes.

Step 6 — Complete Your Financial Freedom Course

Approved applicants must complete Your Financial Freedom Course (YFFC) before rental assistance is issued.

Once program requirements have been completed, rental assistance is paid directly to the landlord or leasing agent.

Your Financial Freedom Course

Practical Financial Education for the Future

Rental assistance can help address a housing need, but financial challenges are often more complex than a single month’s rent.

As part of the program, approved rental assistance participants complete Your Financial Freedom Course (YFFC), a two-class financial education program held on consecutive days.  The course provides practical information participants can use in their everyday lives.

 Course Topics May Include:

  • Creating and maintaining a realistic household budget
  • Understanding income and monthly expenses
  • Identifying financial priorities
  • Managing debt
  • Making informed financial decisions
  • Developing practical money-saving strategies
  • Learning about community resources and additional sources of support

The purpose of YFFC is not to judge how someone has managed their finances. Financial hardship can happen for many reasons, including job loss, unexpected expenses, medical challenges, family emergencies, or changes in household income.  Instead, the course provides participants with practical tools and information they can use as they work toward their individual financial goals.
